Question

Hello sir/madam,
In the concept of CONSTANT PROPORTION:
For Carbon monoxide
3grms of carbon+4grms of oxygen =carbon monoxide
By constant proportion:
1grm of carbon =4/3 gems of oxygen has been said in the vedio.
My doubt is that why
1grm of carbon can be written as 3/4grms of oxygen.

Solution

Carbon monoxide can be represented as CO.

One molecule of CO is made from 1 carbon atom (atomic mass =12) and 1 oxygen atom (atomic mass =16)

In chemistry, the law of constant proportion states that a given chemical compound always contains its component elements in fixed ratio (by mass) and does not depend on its source and method of preparation.

This means that carbon monoxide will always contain carbon and oxygen in the same ratio.
that is
12:16 which simplifies to
3:4

Now, your doubt:
1 gram of carbon cannot be written as 3/4grms of oxygen.

It means that every 3g of carbon will need 4g of oxygen to form CO. [as per the law of definite proportions]
So for 1g carbon (3g/3), (4/3)g of oxygen is required.

If your doubt is still not clear, then please call your mentor and schedule an appointment.
