Solution

The correct option is B (A)- a crossbreed, (B)- Bikaneri ewes and Marino rams
Animal breeding is the practice of producing improved breeds of domesticated animals through selective mating.

It is of two types, inbreeding and out-breeding.

Inbreeding involves the mating of more closely related animals (having common ancestors) within the same breed.

Mating of unrelated animals is called out-breeding.

It is of three types
  • Out-crossing: Mating of animals within the same breed that do not have common ancestors. The offspring obtained is called out cross and out-crossing is the best way to overcome the inbreeding depression.
  • Cross-breeding: In cross-breeding, superior males of one breed are mated with superior females of another breed. The progeny obtained is called cross-breed and usually has desirable traits of both the parents. Hisardale is a breed of sheep developed by crossing Bikaneri ewes (female sheep) and Marino rams (male sheep)
  • Interspecific hybridisation: It is a type of out-breeding. It is the practice of mating male and female animals of two different but closely related species. Mule is obtained by crossing male donkey and a female horse. Hinny is obtained by crossing male horse and a female donkey.
Hence, the correct option is ' b' .
