Histogen theory is proposed by Hanstein. According to histogen theory, there are 3 zones as dermatogen, periblem and pleurome in shoot and root apical meristem. These three zones are considered as histogens or tissue builders.
Dermatogen being the outermost give rise to epidermis. Periblem being the middle layer gives rise to corex with endodermis and pleurome being the innermost layer gives rise to vascular tissue including pith. This way, each zone performs distinct functions and gives rise to particular types of cells.
