Hotspots are the areas of high endemism and high level of species richness. There aee some 34 hotspots identified. Out of which 3 of them occur in India- Western Ghats and Sri Lanka, Indo-Burma and Himalaya. Hotspots cover less than 2% of the total area but contain around 44% of species.
