Air pollution:

1. It refers to any undesirable physical, chemical or biological changes in the atmosphere.
2. It is the contamination of air by harmful foreign substances, chemicals, gases, dust, and smoke that adversely affects the growth of plants, animals, and humans or the ecosystem.
3. The main sources of air pollution include automobile exhaust, agricultural activities, industrial wastes, burning garbage, smoke, mining, and thermal plants.

Control of air pollution :

1. Avoid using vehicles: People can reduce the usage of vehicles by walking for short distances, carpooling, or usage of bicycles, prefer public transport, and use filters, scrubbers, and electrostatic precipitators and catalytic converters in automobiles.
2. Energy conservation: As we need a huge amount of burning fossil fuels to generate electricity, we can conserve energy by simply switching off the lights, fans or any electrical devices when not in use, use of energy-efficient devices such as CFLs, use of unconventional sources of energy like solar, wind or geothermal energies.
3. Reduce Industrial pollution: At the industrial level, the pollutants which are released can be controlled or treated to reduce the effect of pollution or can be substituted with less polluting material, the establishment of industries far away from the residential area.
4. Afforestation and reforestation: The plantation of trees on wastelands is the most effective way to reduce the effects of air pollution. Plants and trees help in purifying the air quality.
5. Recycle and reuse: This concept not only helps in conservation but also helpful in reducing pollution emissions. Recycle products take less power to make other products.
6. Reduction of forest fires: Burning of garbage such as dry leaves on road and smoke from it also causes air pollution that has to be reduced by dumping it in landfills.
7. Avoid usage of crackers and products with chemicals: It can be done by using an alternative use of products with low chemical content and organic properties.
