Question

How are E.Coli and Streptococcus useful/harmful to us ?

Open in App
Solution

Bacteria are all around —and inside—us. Some are harmless, some are beneficial and some, of course, cause disease. Others, such as the common bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, defy categorization. They are turncoats, with the ability to suddenly switch from good to bad

Most E. coli bacteria are harmless and are an importantpart of a healthy intestinal tract. However, some E. coli are pathogenic, meaning they can cause illness by producing toxins that can result in bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, or other more serious conditions, such as impaired kidney function.
