How are our eyes and brain perceiving colour pictures?

The retina of the eye contains the photoreceptors that are of two types: rods and cones. Rods are sensitive to light while the cones are sensitive to different colours. The colours are perceived by the cones and the impulse is transmitted to the optic nerve via the bipolar neurons. The optic nerve transduces the message to the occipital lobe where the brain perceives the colours. The photoreceptors cells are shown below:
