Question

How are the e.m.f. in the primary and secondary coils of a transformer related to the number of turns in these coils?

Open in App
Solution

The relation is the following:
E subscript s over N subscript s equals E subscript p over N subscript p

Np = Number of turns in the primary winding

Ns = Number of turns in the secondary winding

Ep = EMF in the primary winding

Es = Induced EMF in the secondary winding.

or numberofturnsinprimarycoilnumberofturnsinsecondarycoil = emfinprimarycoilemfinsecondarycoil

It means that if you increase the number of turns in the secondary coil the EMF in the secondary coil will increase and vice versa.
