  • Oil and water are two immiscible liquids, they can be separated using a separating funnel.
  • Immiscible liquids do not mix up with each other, they will form different layers depending on the density.
  • When the mixture of oil and water taken in a separating funnel, they form separate layers.
  • Oil being less dense, it form upper layer and water being high dense form lower layer.
  • When the stopper is opened, lower layer can be collected and upper layer remains within the funnel.

Thus, to separate oil and water, we can use a separating funnel.
