Question

How are YACs constructed?

Open in App
Solution

YACs

  1. Yeast artificial chromosome (YAC) vectors have one centromere (CEN), two telomeric sequences (TEL), one autonomously replicating sequence (ARS), and the genes for selectable markers in yeast.
  2. YACs are constructed by joining these elements which are needed for the segregation and replication of the yeast chromosomes.
  3. Yeasts containing YACs grown on selective media that lack particular proteins.
  4. However, the selectable markers do not offer antibiotic resistance like Escherichia coli plasmids.
