How can the floating of a human body be explained?

Open in App
Solution

  1. According to Archimedes’ principle, when a body is partially or fully immersed in water, it displaces water equal to its volume.
  2. A body floats in water when its weight is less than that of an equal volume of water.
  3. If its weight is the same as that of an equal volume of water it will remain afloat.
  4. The density of the human body is similar to the density of water, and what keeps us floating is the air in our lungs.
