How can we identify that a particular compound is a salt?

We can find out the acid,base or salt by dissolving the electrolyte in water. First identify the positive and negative ions that will be formed when the electrolyte dissolves in water.
If the positive ion is H+ then the compound is an acid. If the negative ion is OH- then the compound is base.
Finally , if neither of the above is the case the compund is salt.
