Question

How can we increase capacitance

Open in App
Solution

Capacitance only depends upon the geometrical dimension and the permitivity of the dielectric used. If we take example of parallel plate capacitor then Capacitance for aparallel plate Capacitor is given as

C = E0ErA/ d

Where E0 = Permittivityof free space.

Er =Relative permittivity of dielectric.

d = Separation between the plates.

A =Cross sectional area of plate

So, from the above it is quite clear that Capacitance depend only on dimension, dielectric and geometry.

If you want to increase the Capacitance of Parallele Plate Capacitor then increase the surface area, reduce the separation between the plate and use a dielectric material in between the plate which have higher dielectric breakdown strength.
