Question

How can we make saturated solution unsaturated?

Open in App
Solution

Converting a saturated solution to an unsaturated solution means that one should be able to dissolve more amount of solute in the solution. This can be done in the following ways.

  • By adding more solvent to the saturated solution: The addition of more amount of solvent in the saturated solution will make it unsaturated enabling more amount of solute to be dissolved in it.
  • By increasing the temperature of the saturated solution: A solution is saturated only at a particular temperature because the solubility of any solute in a given solvent is dependent on temperature. Solubility increases as temperature increases. At increasing temperature, more solute can be dissolved in it.

Unsaturated solution: A solution in which more solute can be dissolved at a given temperature in the given amount of a solvent is known as an unsaturated solution.

Saturated solution: A solution that holds the maximum amount of solute in the given amount of solvent at a particular temperature is known as a saturated solution.
