Solution

Compost:

  • Composting is recycling of organic, biodegradable waste like dried leaves, waste food, rotten vegetables to form humus in the present of decomposers.

Process of composting:

  • Compost can be prepared within a concrete tank or mud pit.
  • Organic waste from kitchen, garden or crop fields is collected and placed in the sun for about 8-12 days.
  • The collected waste is then kept in that pit for decomposition.
  • A layer of soil is then put after a few layers of waste in an alternate manner.
  • Earthworms are released into the pit and the compost pit is covered with gunny bags.
  • These earthworms and bacteria in the soil help to degrade the organic matter.
  • Water is sprinkled regularly to ensure the moisture content of the compost.
  • After a few weeks the entire waste is degraded and we obtain a highly nutritive compost that is very useful for the plants.
