Solution:
The paths of both Buddhism and Jainism required one to leave home in search of enlightenment. Thus, sanghas were formed. These were associations of people who left home in pursuit of the ultimate truth.
Membership of the sangha: Men were free to join the sangha, while women, children, people working under the king, slaves, and debtors had to seek the permission of their husbands, parents, king, their master, and creditors.
Life in the sangha: Members of the sangha led simple lives. Most of their time was spent meditating. During fixed hours of the day, they went to the cities and villages to beg for food. The sangha members helped each other. The sangha was joined by people from all walks of life.
