The life of the weavers were badly affected with the entry of European industries in India. The East India did not want the Indian weavers to supply products to other European Companies. So they appointed Gomasthas who were loyal to the British to supervise the weavers. These Gomasthas ill treated the weavers, forced them to take loans and also pressurised them to supply products in time. The weavers were bound to supply goods to the Britishers at low prices.
