Question

How did your body solve the problem of altitude sickness?

Open in App
Solution

At higher altitudes, the atmospheric pressure is low causing hypoxia (less oxygen available to the body). The body experiences nausea, heart palpitations and dizziness. This condition is called altitude sickness.
  • Increasing erythropoiesis: This increases the oxygen transport rate.
  • Elevated breathing rate: This allows more oxygen to enter the body.
  • Increasing heart rate: To increase the rate of blood supply to various tissues.
