Dispersion of solid in liquids is an interfacial phenomenon. There is a mass transfer happening on the interface due to the gradient of concentrations at the surface of solid and the liquid surrounding it. Once the solid particles get into liquid dispersion media, they are further spread through the process of diffusion.
