Question

How do angiosperms conserve water?

Open in App
Solution

Angiosperms:

Angiosperms are flower and fruit-bearing plants and these constitute 80% of all plants.

Conservation of water in angiosperms:

  1. The plants have evolved and adapted to prevent unnecessary water loss.
  2. The cuticle of the epidermal cells contains cutin, a water-repellant, which helps keeps the water in the plant.
  3. The leaves have minute hairs on their surface that deflect sunlight off the surface and thus maintain the temperature of the plant.
  4. Stomata present in the leaves open and close based on water requirement.
