Question

How do organisms help in soil formation?

Open in App
Solution

Soil formation occurs in steps due to weathering, parent rocks break into gravel sand, silt and clay, which become habitat for large variety or organisms like algae, fungi, helminthes, insects, frogs, reptiles, rodents, etc. Death and decay of these living forms provide organic matter which combines with inorganic matter derived from the parent rock to form humus, which finally develops into mature soil.
