Dear student,
Central nervous system (CNS) involves both brain and spinal cord which is connected to all body parts through peripheral nervous system. Peripheral nervous system (PNS) involves all the nerves outside brain and spinal cord. Thus, involves nerves of whole body. The main function of PNS is to connect brain and spinal cord to other body parts like limbs, visceral organs etc.
PNS is of two types:
Somatic nervous system: It is associated with the voluntary actions i.e it transmits messages from voluntary organs to brain and then back to them.
Autonomic nervous system: It is associated with the involuntary organs like visceral organs (internal organs- heart, lungs, stomach etc.). It transmits messages from these organs to brain and from brain back to these organs.
