How do the paternal and maternal chromosomes of each homologous pair separate during anaphase I?

Anaphase I

  1. During anaphase I of meiosis, two chromatids of a chromosome from each tetrad move as a pair to the two opposite poles.
  2. This separates the homologous chromosomes of each pair.
  3. The half the chromosomes which had appeared in the early prophase, have moved to each pole.
  4. Thus, the maternal and paternal chromosomes of individual homologous pairs get separated independently of the different chromosomes as shown below:
