Open in App
Solution

  • In 1796, Edward Jenner inserted pus (taken from Sarah Nelmes, a milkmaid with cowpox) into a cut made in the arm of a boy named James Phipps.
  • When Jenner exposed the boy to smallpox, he was found to be immune tot the disease.
  • Jenner called that new method of immunisation as 'vaccination'. Hence, he is also known as the Father of Cowpox Vaccination.
