How do you justify a separate kingdom status for fungi.

Open in App
Solution

Until 1969, organisms were divided into two kingdoms; plant and animal. Plants made their own food using photosynthesis and sunlight. Animals were mobile and had to obtain food from other sources. Fungi were similar to plant in a way that they were immobile and similar to animals as they had to obtain carbohydrates from other sources. Hence, fungi was separated to form a new kingdom. Some examples of fungi include yeast, mushroom etc.
