Question

How do you know if you have recessive genes?

Open in App
Solution

Recessive alleles:

  1. Recessive alleles are those that do not express in an individual unless both of the individual's copies of that gene have that genotype.
  2. Recessive alleles have no effect unless the individual has two copies of the allele (also known as homozygous).
  3. Recessive alleles can be found using pedigree analysis.
  4. For example, because the allele for blue eyes is recessive, you must have two copies of the 'blue eye' allele to have blue eyes.
