Question

How does a nephron filter blood?

Open in App
Solution

Nephron:

  1. A nephron is a structural and functional unit of the kidney.
  2. The kidney is the chief excretory organ in vertebrates to remove urea and nitrogenous wastes from the body of the vertebrates.
  3. Nephron works as an independent filtration unit through which the nitrogenous wastes along with water are removed from the blood in the form of urine.
  4. The blood flows under a certain pressure in the renal artery. This pressure helps in filtering the blood through the thin walls of the capillaries forming a network in a nephron.
  5. Blood cells and proteins remain in the capillaries while urea, wastes and a large amount of water get filtered out into the nephron.
