In rotatory motion, the axis of rotation passes from a point in the body itself where in a circular motion, the axis of revolution passes through a point outside the body.

-An axis of rotation is the straight line through all fixed points of a rotating rigid body around which all other points of the body move in circles.
-An axis of revolution is a line around which something is revolved.
