Question

How does air exert pressure?

Open in App
Solution

The pressure exerted by air:-

  • Air is made up of molecules of different gases.
  • The gaseous molecules are colliding with each other continuously with the walls of the container.
  • When a molecule collides with the wall, they exert small force on the wall.
  • The pressure exerted by the gas is due to sum of all these collision forces with the wall of container.
  • The more the particles hit the wall, the higher the pressure.

Therefore, due to gaseous molecules collides in air gases exert pressure.
