Question

How does ATP enable transport proteins to move?

Open in App
Solution

Active membrane transport:

  1. This type of membrane transport consumes ATP(adenosine triphosphate) for moving molecules.
  2. Active transport involves the movement of molecules against the concentration gradient, i.e., the movement of molecules from a place of low concentration to high concentration.
  3. It consumes ATP as energy to perform this process.
  4. Hence, it requires external cellular energy that's why called active transport.
