Question

How does ATP Leave the mitochondria?

Open in App
Solution

ATP transport from mitochondria:

  1. ATP(adenosine triphosphate) is produced by the process of oxidative phosphorylation at the inner mitochondrial membrane.
  2. Hence, that's why mitochondria is the organelle also known as the powerhouse of the cell.
  3. The transport of ATP molecules across the cell occurs via special proteins known as mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier protein (AAC).
  4. It is a major transport protein of the inner mitochondrial membrane.
  5. They regulate the intake of ADP inside the mitochondria for ATP synthesis.
  6. And also regulate the outtake of ATP from the mitochondria for cellular utilization.
