Question

How does entropy affect free energy?

Open in App
Solution

Entropy affects free energy-

  1. Entropy is described as the thermal energy per unit temperature that is not available for useful work.
  2. Gibbs free energy is described as the thermodynamic potential evaluated as the maximum work done in the system.
  3. From the formula, G=H-TS where Gis Gibbs free energy, His enthalpy, and Sis entropy.
  4. The entropy of a system increases as its free energy decreases. for, example sun has free energy, and this energy is converted to useful work.
  5. However as the entropy( energy not available for useful work) increases then the Gibbs free energy(energy available for useful work) decreases.
