Fertilization:

  1. The fusion of the male gamete i.e sperm with the female gamete i.e ova is known as fertilization.
  2. Fertilization occurs in a fallopian tube.
  3. Sperm enter the vagina through copulation.
  4. It moves up to enter the oviduct.
  5. In the oviduct, the ovum fuses with sperm.
  6. The fusion of male and female gamete leads to the formation of a zygote.
  7. Many sperms reach the fallopian tube, but only one sperm is needed for fertilization.
  8. The zygote gets implanted in the inner lining of the uterus.
  9. It undergoes repeated division forming an embryo.
  10. This process occurs once a month in humans as the ovary releases an egg only once a month.
