Question

How does increasing frequency affect amplitude?

Open in App
Solution

Amplitude and frequency:

  1. Amplitude is the separation between the wave's resting position and its highest displacement.
  2. Frequency is the number of waves that pass by a particular place each second.

The formula of amplitude:

x=Asin(ωt+ϕ)xA=sin(ωt+ϕ)

Where, x= Displacement of the wave, in meters, A = Amplitude of the wave, in meters, ω = Angular frequency of the wave, in radians, t = time, in seconds, and ϕ = phase shift, in radians.

Frequency effect on amplitude:

The wave's amplitude and frequency are related in such a way that they are inversely proportional to one another. The amplitude decreases with increasing frequency. The amplitude increases as the frequency decreases.
