Oxidation reactions of ozone:
(1) Lead sulphide (black) is oxidized to lead sulphate (white)
PbS+4O3→PbSO4+4O2
(2) Moist potassium iodide is oxidized to iodine.
2KI+H2O+O3→2KOH+I2+O2
(3) Mercury reacts with ozone to form an oxide. Meniscus of mercury is lost and mercurous oxide sticks to the glass. It is known as tailing of mercury.
On shaking with water, the meniscus is restored.
2Hg+O3→Hg2O+O2
(4) Ethylene reacts with ozone to form ozonide which is decomposed by zinc dust and water to form formaldehdye.
CH2=CH2+O3→2CH2O+H2O2
