How does reabsorption of water occur in the initial segments of the nephron?

Open in App
Solution

Reabsorption of water:

  1. A nephron is the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney.
  2. Water reabsorption occurs passively in the first segments of the nephron.
  3. The proximal convoluted tubule is the first part of the nephron responsible for water reabsorption.
  4. Bowman's capsule filters the fluid that enters the proximal tubule.
  5. Many substances required by the body that may have been filtered out of the blood at the glomerulus are reabsorbed in this segment.
  6. Water is reabsorbed through osmosis along with the other substances.
