Question

How does temperature and water affect photosynthesis?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student, temperature and water affect the rate of photosynthesis. At low temperatures (below 10 degree Celsius) the enzymes carrying photosynthesis gets deactivated and they do not work properly thus decreasing the rate of photosynthesis while at higher temperatures the enzymes gets denatured thus decreasing the rate of photosynthesis. Whereas the water affects the photosynthesis rate indirectly . In the deficiency of water (water stress) the stomata gets closed thus less gaseous exchange occurs which decreases the photosynthesis, excess of the water causes the wilting of the leaves thus decreasing the surface area of leaves which also decreases photosynthesis. The maximum photosynthesis occurs at the optimum temperature and water concentrations , change in them leads to the decreased photosynthesis rate. Regards.
