Question

How Does Temperature Change Equilibrium?

Open in App
Solution

The effect of temperature on equilibrium change:

  • According to Le Chatelier's principle, the equilibrium can be shifted in forward or backward direction by indicating the nature(endothermic or exothermic) of the reaction on changing the temperature.
  • In this reaction A+BC+D, when the reaction is in forward direction then it will be exothermic reaction while the backward reaction will be endothermic reaction.
  • The equilibrium will shift in forward direction by releasing heat on decreasing the temperature of a reaction.

Thus, When the temperature is increased the equilibrium shifts in backward direction.
