Question

How does the heat produced in a wire or a conductor depend upon the:

Current passing through the conductor?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Heat is produced due to a current flowing in a conductor (generally of high resistance).
  2. The heat generated due to current I in the circuit along with a potential difference V is,H=I2Rt, where t is the time for which the current flows.
  3. As we can see in the formula, the heat produced is directly proportional to the square of the current flown in the circuit.
  4. The rise in current flow in the circuit can raise the heat generated in multifold.
