Casparian strip:

  1. Casparian are ring-like cell wall modifications.
  2. They are found in the root endodermis (central innermost layer of cortex) of vascular plants.
  3. They are mainly composed of lignin.
  4. They generate a paracellular barrier which serves as a tight junction and helps in selective nutrient uptake, exclusion of pathogens, and many other processes.
  5. The passage of water inside Casparian strips is via the symplastic pathway.
  6. The symplastic pathway involves the communication between cells through cell membranes and plasmodesmata (co-axial membranous channels).
