How has the industrial revolution affected the development of railways?

Number of industries, factories, usage of machineries were flourished during the Industrial Revolution. Need for transportation of goods, equipments, machineries was also highly increased. Railways provided a faster and easier mode of transportation. Major number of people used railways for transportation. This generated a good amount of revenue for the railways to develop faster. Invention of Steam engines boosted up the industrial activities.
