Fingerprints are patterns on the fingers, toes, palms, and feet.

Fingerprint formation:

1. They occur as ridges that are unique for every individual.
2. They are different even in the case of identical twins.
3. Their formation occurs in the womb of the mother.
4. Their formation occurs due to rapid growth of the layers of the epidermis which forms folds hence reading to the formation of various patterns.
5. They depend on several factors such as:

• the genetic makeup
• length of the umbilical cord
• amniotic fluid
• position of the foetus in the womb
