  1. White light is comprised from a collection of colors.
  2. When white light is made to pass through a prism it breaks down into its component colors.
  3. This phenomenon is known as dispersion of light.

Rainbow formation:

  1. A rainbow is an optical phenomenon due to refraction that occurs when the surrounding atmosphere is suitable.
  2. Rainbow is a natural effect of the dispersion of sunlight.
  3. Sunlight enters a water droplet, slow down, and bend as it goes from air to a denser medium.
  4. The light reflects by the interior of the droplet that separates sunlight into different colors.
  5. When light rays leave the droplet, a beautiful rainbow is produced in the sky.
