Commercial uses:

1. It produces seed progeny that is the same as the mother plant.
2. It is commercially used to produce seeds in hybrid plants, so they need not be produced yearly. Thus it helps in the preservation of good characters over generation and segregation of characters does not occur in the progeny
3. It also prevents the loss of specific characters from a hybrid.
4. It is cost-effective.
