Question

How is division of labour done in the cells of living organisms

Open in App
Solution

Cells show very neat division of labour, each cell has various organelles which have their own function to perform. Some of the organelles generally present in a cell are:

Mitochondria synthesise the energy currency(ATP), other organelles use this currency to perform their activities. They are also called Power House of The Cell.

Ribosomes synthesise proteins (like Insulin), the type of proteins depends on the type of cell.

Endoplasmic Reticulum transport these proteins to Golgi bodies in the cell.

Golgi bodies pack the proteins into vesicles which are then released from the cell.

Cell Membrane gives the cell its structure and shape. It also prevents unwanted intruders from entering the cell.

Nucleus, also called Master organelle contains DNA the genetic material which is passed on to next generation. It also controls various activities of cell.

Then some specific cells have their own components like
Red blood cells have Haemoglobin which is used in transport of Oxygen and Carbon dioxide,

Plant cells have Plastids, which have various functions including Synthesising food.

Then there are Lysosomes in the cell which eat up the waste materials and foreign bodies
