Question

How is frost formed?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Deposition is the reverse of the process of sublimation.
  2. Here, a gas solidifies directly without going through the liquid stage when it undergoes a reduction in temperature.
  3. During winter, the temperature is extremely cold.
  4. Thus the water vapours in the atmosphere undergo deposition and form frost.

Hence, frost is formed by the deposition of water vapours in the atmosphere in extremely cold conditions.
