Rive water pollution is caused by,
1. Large amounts of domestic, municipal, and agricultural wastes are disposed of in the rivers.
2. Huge quantities of untreated sewage and industrial effluents are disposed of in rivers. These reduce the quality of water and also the self-cleansing capacity of the rivers.
3. Dumping of used oil and paints into river water has also polluted the river.
4. Pathogens are water pollutants, these are the disease-causing agents that enter the water from domestic sewage and Animal Excreta.
Plans made by the Government of India to stop the water pollution are,
1. Preparation of action plan for sewage management and restoration of water quality in aquatic resources by state governments.
2. Setting up of monitoring network for assessment of water quality.
3. Ganga Action plan for protecting river Ganga from furthermore pollution.
