(i) Force is in direction of displacement

Work done = Force $\times$ Displacement $= F s$

(ii) Force is at an angle to the direction of displacement

Work done = Force $\times$ Component of displacement in the direction of force $= F s c o s θ$

where $θ$ is the angle between force and displacement.
