Question

How light is electromagnetic in nature?

Open in App
Solution

Electromagnetic Waves:

  1. Electromagnetic waves are also known as EM waves.
  2. Electromagnetic radiations are composed of electromagnetic waves that are produced when an electric field comes in contact with the magnetic field.
  3. It can also be said that electromagnetic waves are the composition of oscillating electric and magnetic fields
  4. The meaning of electromagnetic is that it has two parts: electric and magnetic. Technically, there are electromagnetic waves.

Now, as per the properties of electromagnetic waves:

  1. These waves are transverse and can travel through the vacuum at the speed of light that is 3×108ms-1.
  2. We know that light can be refracted and reflected and electromagnetics also have these properties.
  3. Like an electromagnetic wave, the electric and magnetic fields are in the same phase.

Light is the result of electric field and magnetic field vibrating perpendicular to each other and moving through space at the speed of 3 x 108 m/s.

Hence, light is electromagnetic in nature.
