Boiling:

  1. If we do not have access to safe bottled water, boil our water before drinking it.
  2. Boiling is the most effective way to kill disease-causing organisms such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
  3. Some bacterial spores that aren't normally associated with waterborne illness can withstand boiling temperatures.

Water boiling for one minute:

Boiled water can be kept in sterile, securely sealed containers for three days in the refrigerator, or at room temperature for 24 hours if kept out of direct sunlight.
